MOVING DATE: Advice charity ‘very excited’ to move to new building on 23rd June
- Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire will begin operating from its new Advice Centre in Station Road, Yate on 23rdJune
- The charity’s Yate open-door sessions and appointments will no longer take place at the current building next to Yate Leisure Centre from 20thJune onwards – instead moving to Station Road
- The charity’s Yate drop-in on the Friday before the move will be cancelled to allow the team to move everything needed to the new Advice Centre
The largest advice agency in South Gloucestershire will move to a new building on Monday 23rd June.
Anyone wanting to come for help from Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire’s Yate office should come to Unit 1 Badminton Court, Station Road, Yate BS37 5HZ from that date onwards – rather than its current location next to Yate Leisure Centre.
The charity’s face-to-face sessions at other locations in South Gloucestershire – Cadbury Heath, Stoke Gifford, Lyde Green, Thornbury, Bradley Stoke, Emersons Green and Staple Hill & Mangotsfield – will remain running as normal.
Moving date set as current building too small
Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire needs to move because demand for its services is increasing.
It helped more than 8,800 people in 2024-25, its busiest year on record – with more people than ever needing the charity’s free, independent and confidential support in areas such as benefits, debt, cost-of-living issues, housing, relationship breakdown and much more.
And its team is growing to meet the demand – meaning its current home in Kennedy Way is too small and there is a need for more space which the new building will provide.
The charity is 51 years old and has been based at its current premises for 37 years.
It has always rented its offices up to now – but has purchased the unit at Badminton Court, giving it greater control over its future.
Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire is a local, independent charity reliant on grants and donations to continue its vital work.
The new offices will have a much larger waiting area, six interview rooms – up from four at the current building – and improved facilities such as an accessible toilet for clients.
The Friday before the move – Friday 20th June – the charity will cancel its usual drop-in session in Yate to allow the team to move all equipment over to the new premises.
Details of an opening event at the new Advice Centre will be announced in due course.
‘We are very excited to be moving’
Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire CEO Chantal Watts said: “We are very excited to be moving to our new Advice Centre in Station Road.
“We’ve been working on the move for a long time and are thrilled to be able to open our doors at last and offer an improved service to the South Gloucestershire community.
“We know our charity is needed more than ever and we are responding to this by growing our team of Advisers. That’s why this move is needed – we’ve outgrown our current home in Kennedy Way.
“We hope you will bear with us during the transition period – including the week before when our services will briefly close to allow us to move.
“We’d also like to thank everyone who had donated towards our Premises Appeal and Crowdfunder – which have funded the changes we needed to make to the building as well as fire safety compliance.”
Anyone living in South Gloucestershire who needs help from Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire is asked to come to the charity’s face-to-face drop-in sessions around the region in the first instance.
