‘He made me smile’: Success story of the month – Peter’s client
A client who became homeless as a result of escaping domestic abuse was given a helping hand by Peter of our Help To Claim team.
The client said she received limited help from various other organisations she had contacted, and was eventually recommended Citizens Advice by her local MP’s office.
She had previously been under the impression she could not claim Universal Credit because she was in work, but Peter explained this wasn’t the case.
He was able to show the client would be eligible for more than £500 per month once she is liable for rent.
This will significantly help the client be able to afford a place of her own to live.
She said: “Peter made me smile – the first time I had smiled in a very long time.
“He explained everything clearly so it was easy to understand. He made me feel I can find my own place to live.”
The client is also caring for her mother for more than 35 hours per week – and Peter advised the client if she was to claim Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Attendance Allowance, she could potentially claim as her mother’s carer.
