Yate charity’s office move receives boost as neighbouring business donates chairs

- Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire is moving – and is currently fundraising for chairs, desks and fire doors
- Ergochair, which is based near to the charity’s new office in Yate, kindly donated eight ergonomic chairs which saves the charity hundreds of pounds
- The charity will move to Station Road, Yate on 23rd June
A South Gloucestershire charity’s office move has received a boost thanks to a generous donation of ergonomic chairs from a Yate-based company.
Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire, the largest advice charity in South Gloucestershire, is moving from its current home in Kennedy Way to Station Road on 23rd June.
The new Advice Centre is needed because more and more people are turning to the charity for help amid the cost-of-living crisis – and the charity’s team is also growing.
Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire is fundraising for the £13,611 needed for final elements of the move including new chairs, desks and fire doors.
Ergochair, a Yate-based company which specialises in bespoke ergonomic chairs, has donated eight chairs to the charity.
The donation is worth several hundred pounds and makes a huge difference to the independent charity which is reliant on grants and donations to keep providing vital advice to anyone who needs it in the area.
Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire was put in touch with Ergochair by Thornbury and Yate MP Claire Young – and the charity were delighted to find the company was keen to make a donation.
Ergochair
Ergochair, based in Armstrong Way, Yate, has partnered with firms including Lloyds Banking Group, RAC and Sony to make chairs for their employees and is a partner to the Government’s Access To Work programme.
The chairs donated to the charity by Ergochair had been passed to the company after it fitted out another firm with new bespoke chairs.
The previously-owned chairs were then reuphostered by Ergochair’s experts – making them look and feel brand new – before it passed them to Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire.
Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire CEO Chantal Watts said: “We’re very grateful to our neighbours Ergochair for the kind donation of these chairs.
“The chairs look brand new – they have been restored really well by Ergochair.
“It’s a huge help and gets us on our way towards our target of getting office chairs, desks and fire doors for the new office via our Crowdfunder.
”Currently, the premises at Kennedy Way by Yate Leisure Centre are too small – both for our team and for clients during our busy open-door sessions.
“We can’t wait to open our doors to welcome the South Gloucestershire community to our new Advice Centre.”
‘Zero Chairs to Landfill’
Gavin Garthwaite, Project Manager at Ergochair said: “We’re proud to support Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire as part of our commitment to the local community and environmental sustainability.
”At Ergochair, our ‘Zero Chairs to Landfill’ policy ensures every chair we receive is carefully assessed, refurbished, and rehomed.
“The chairs donated were expertly reupholstered by our team to ensure they looked and felt like new, extending their lifespan and reducing waste. It’s all part of our circular economy approach, combining ergonomic excellence with responsible reuse.”
Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire is currently based at Kennedy Way, Yate BS37 4DQ near Yate Leisure Centre (what.three.words: rounds.reader.vase).
But from 23rd June, it will move to the new Advice Centre at Unit 1 Badminton Court, Station Road, Yate BS37 5HZ (what.three.words: jiffy.validated.flux).
