Anyone who wants to make their money go further each week can benefit from free budgeting help from their local advice charity.
Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire is now offering community budgeting sessions to anyone who is struggling with their money and looking to feel more in control of their finances.
The Money Matters project gives people the practical tools and confidence to manage their money more effectively and comes at a crucial time when many households continue to face financial pressures from the ongoing Cost of Living Crisis.
Budgeting advice – what you’ll learn
Anyone attending the free group sessions will learn how to:
- Take control of their budget
- Make their money last each week
- Cut down on household bills and everyday costs
- Check they are getting all the money they are entitled to
- Build simple habits to stay on track
The sessions will be held in the charity’s Advice Centre at Unit 1 Badminton Court, Station Road, Yate, BS37 5HZ. Sessions take place on Thursdays, with dates arranged according to demand.
Anyone living in South Gloucestershire can sign up via the charity’s webform or by leaving a message on 01454 334961 – stating they want to be signed up to a Money Matters session.
They will then be contacted and with details of the next available session.
The project is being run by the charity’s award-winning Debt Team.
While budgeting and debt are different issues, they are closely linked. Developing good budgeting skills can help people avoid financial difficulties including falling into debt, while those already experiencing debt often benefit from improving their budgeting skills alongside receiving debt advice.
You are not alone and there’s support available
Eliza Hirst, Debt Team Manager at Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire, said: “If you’re struggling to keep on top of your money – you are not alone. And there’s support available.
“This service is for anyone who is finding money tight, struggling with bills or debt or simply wanting to feel more in control of their finances.
“You can expect a friendly, relaxed group session focussed on practical advice and simple tips that you can put into practice straight away.
“If you’d like some support with managing your money, we’d encourage you to sign up. You’ll come away with practical tools and information to help you stay on track.”
The session is funded by South Gloucestershire Council through the Crisis and Resilience Fund.
Councillor Alison Evans, cabinet member responsible for the cost of living, equalities and public health at South Gloucestershire Council, said: “The Crisis and Resilience Fund is a new way in which South Gloucestershire Council is supporting residents facing financial difficulty. It doesn’t just focus on short term help but aims to build longer term financial stability.
“We are pleased to partner with Citizens Advice and see this as a really beneficial way in which we can help support our residents.”
