  • Advice charity to launch new free advice sessions for Charfield and Patchway

    Charfield Village Hall

    • Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire is adding Charfield and Patchway to its list of free advice session locations across South Gloucestershire
    • The new Charfield sessions will start on Wednesday 19th August and repeat on the third Wednesday of each month from 10am to 12 noon at The Meeting Room, Charfield Village Hall
    • The Patchway sessions will be at South Gloucestershire Council’s Patchway Family Hub on Tuesdays from 10am to 12 noon starting Tuesday 25th August
South Gloucestershire’s largest advice charity will shortly launch new free advice sessions for Charfield and Patchway.

These sessions mean people living in these parts of South Gloucestershire will be able to get confidential, impartial advice from Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire without having to travel further afield.

The Charfield session will form part of the charity’s new rotating outreach service for rural areas – with other parts of South Gloucestershire set to benefit shortly as well.

This new rotating service is funded by South Gloucestershire Council through the Crisis and Resilience Fund (CRF).

The Charfield session has also been facilitated thanks to The Keepers – Wotton Area Community Hub.

The Charfield session will run from 10am to 12 noon on the third Wednesday of each month at The Meeting Room, Charfield Village Hall, Wotton Road GL12 8TG, starting on Wednesday 19th August.

Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire is working with the West of England Rural Network (WERN) to identify further locations in South Gloucestershire where rural outreach sessions can be held.

The new Patchway session is also funded by the CRF as part of a separate collaboration with the Family Hubs, part of South Gloucestershire Council’s Best Start in Life programme.

The Patchway session will run from 10am to 12 noon on Tuesdays at South Gloucestershire Council’s Patchway Family Hub at Patchway Children’s Centre in Epney Close BS34 5TF.

How the Charfield and Patchway sessions will work

The sessions will be run by a qualified Adviser who will be able to help clients with practically any issue.

This includes (but is not limited to) debt, benefits, housing, cost-of-living and relationship breakdown. No appointment is necessary.

The other locations to receive a new monthly outreach through the CRF funding will be announced shortly.

Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire CEO Chantal Watts said: “For a long time, we have wanted to be able to offer more of our vital, free advice in rural areas.

“Now, this CRF-funded project will allow us to get to more places where people need us in South Gloucestershire – starting with Charfield from 19th August onwards.

“Similarly, we are very excited to be starting a new session in Patchway in collaboration with Patchway Family Hub.

“If you need help with practically any issue, we encourage you to come and see our qualified Adviser who will be able to support you.

“Thank you to South Gloucestershire Council and The Keepers for allowing this to happen and please look out for more news from us soon on other areas we will be coming to regularly.”

    ‘Vital support’

Councillor Alison Evans, cabinet member responsible for cost of living at South Gloucestershire Council, said: “We are very pleased to be able to support these initiatives through the Crisis and Resilience Fund, which will bring vital support to the heart of our local communities.

“Starting with Charfield, Citizen Advice South Gloucestershire’s new rotating outreach service for rural areas will soon include other locations across South Glos too, enabling people to access services where they live rather than coming to us.

“And we are pleased the new Patchway session at our Family Hub will mean people living in Patchway too can benefit from excellent advice without having to go further afield.”

Gail Stephens Tuffee, Project Coordinator at The Keepers, said: “It is great to have Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire coming to Charfield.

“Bringing services into the village makes it easier for people to access advice locally, without always having to travel.

“It’s a really important part of what we want The Keepers in Charfield to be able to offer.”
