An advice charity’s team of runners are thrilled after completing the Bristol 10K and raising £1,700.
The team of six were running for Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire at the AJ Bell Great Bristol Run on 19th May.
Despite hot conditions, the event had an “incredible” atmosphere with fantastic support for the runners from colleagues and members of the public.
The £1,700 raised will go towards the charity’s core costs in helping more than 7,000 people in South Gloucestershire per year.
The charity now helps roughly ten times as many clients in need of food bank or charitable support each month as it did prior to the pandemic.
Runner India on completing the Bristol 10K
Runner India Ellis leads the charity’s WARM project, which provides advice to people with low to moderate physical or mental health problems.
She was inspired to run for the organisation as it is a “charity for everyone” which can help with benefits, debt, relationships or any other issue people may need support with.
She joined the South Gloucestershire charity last year having previously volunteered with Citizens Advice Plymouth while studying for her undergraduate LLB Law degree.
India, 23, who lives in Staple Hill, is – along with her colleagues – helping more and more clients who are struggling in the cost-of-living crisis.
She said: “I have never been a fan of running but challenging myself for a worthy cause, like Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire, made it an easy decision to give it a go.
“Training for the race had its hurdles as I had some rugby injuries which set me back slightly. Pushing through made me feel all the prouder for completing the race.
“It was a hot day from the get-go which added to the difficulty, but the atmosphere was incredible. I loved the performers which were dotted throughout the course!
“Nearing the finish line was special for me, it was great to see my colleagues really cheering for me; as well as members of the public who were reading my name and cheering!
“It was an incredible high to complete those last few hundred metres and finish the race.
“I would recommend it to anyone who wants to challenge themselves.”
