Anyone wanting to get a cheaper deal on their energy now that electricity prices have risen by 5.1% can speak to an expert for free.
Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire’s energy expert Marion Straker is available to help people sign up for fixed deals in order to save money compared to the price cap.
Electricity costs went up by 5.1% on 1st January and energy prices as a whole remain considerably more expensive than prior to the cost-of-living crisis.
The price cap rise affects customers on standard tariffs as opposed to fixed tariffs – which lock in a rate for energy costs at a set time.
It could be worth switching to a fixed tariff as customers are not bound by changes in the price cap.
Marion is able to give anyone interested a free telephone appointment where she will discuss your situation and run through the options to find the cheapest deal for you.
Lower your energy bill
Marion said: “There are quite a few ways that you can make savings on your electricity costs.
“In addition to fixing or changing provider there are savings to be made in changing the way that you pay, making better use of your smart meter to take advantage of low peak rates. And of course making sure that you are cutting down on your usage.
“We can also help if you are having trouble meeting your payments.”
