  • Trustee board

    Neutral women in conversation

Every Citizens Advice is a registered charity and each has its own board of trustees, all of whom are voluntary.  At Citizens Advice South Gloucestershire, we will normally recruit trustees to fill specific skills gaps. But we do want to welcome people of all ages, backgrounds and experience. Because our Trustee Board usually meets in the evenings, you can fit this around a full time job or study. As a member of the Trustee Board, you are jointly responsible for managing and planning the service’s overall strategic direction, acting as employer for paid staff, managing the services’s finances, ensuring the service complies with the law and being responsible for premises, insurance and equipment.

Why not consider becoming a Trustee Board Member?

The role of our Trustee Board is to set the strategy and provide the necessary funding and facilities and anything else which the General Manager, staff, and volunteers need to operate the service within that strategy. The Chief Executive Officer, Chantal Watts,  runs the service itself, but accounts to the Board for the service’s performance.

Ideal candidates will have a willingness to serve the community, but in addition will have some technical skill and experience in any of the following areas

    • Demographics and social analysis
    • Legal
    • Property Management
    • Employment Law
    • IT, Telephony, Internet, Coms technology
    • Media and PR
    • Fund Raising

We are particularly interested at the moment to hear from candidates who have experience of the Advice Sector.

    These are non-political appointments.

We really value diversity and hope to attract candidates with differing backgrounds.

We have about 6 Board meetings per annum, supplemented by the occasional Strategy session or sessions necessary to respond to any major issues. Suitable training and induction will be arranged.

Our Board meetings are fairly informal, notwithstanding the seriousness of the subject matter, and take place in Yate, in the evenings (6.30 – 8.30).
