All about Us
Empowering the people of South Gloucestershire
South Gloucestershire CAB is the only generalist independent advice agency in the district set up to offer information, advice and advocacy services to people in the whole of South Gloucestershire. Those services make a real difference to the lives of people in our area. Have a look at our latest Impact Report to see what we mean!
Our team of carefully selected and trained workers and volunteers are here to ensure that everyone in South Gloucestershire gets the free, independent, confidential and impartial advice they need to manage their lives. We want local people to be confident in asserting their needs and obtaining their rights as well as being aware of their responsibilities under the law and to each other. We recognise that people are different with various needs, and by valuing diversity, promoting equality and challenging discrimination we hope to be able to offer everyone easy access as well as high quality advice to help resolve their problems.
Valuing local people
We recognise that people are different with various needs, and by valuing diversity, promoting equality and challenging discrimination we hope to be able to offer everyone easy access as well as high quality advice to help resolve their problems.
Campaigning for Change
Naturally, we get to hear a lot about what goes on in our area and we are in a good position to identify some of the common problems experienced by people. We use this experience, anonymously of course, to challenge the practices of both public bodies and private companies where these adversely affect our clients and are often successful in negotiating changes to their advantage. You can find out more by looking at our Join our campaigns page.
How we are organised
We are a local charity governed by a local Board of Trustees. Our trustees have close links with the community in South Gloucestershire and are responsible to Citizens Advice and the Charity Commission for ensuring that the service we provide meets, as far as possible, the advice needs of South Gloucestershire residents. Every year, the Board makes an assessment of which communities in the area are in the greatest need and whether the bureau has been successful in reaching those communities. From time to time, the bureau will change how it delivers its services in order to reach newly identified priority areas of work.
How we are funded
The services that we provide in the area are funded almost entirely from local sources – South Gloucestershire Council, Town and Parish councils and grants from other local bodies. Contrary to most people’s expectations, we get no direct funding from central government to provide our services
South Gloucestershire Citizens Advice Bureau is an independent charity (no 1037480) and a company limited by guarantee (no 2715290). You can find our latest annual accounts on the Charity Commission’s websitewww.charitycommission.gov.uk.
